It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for, the crew announcement for WeHoRR 2022!The standard this year was high, so high, and we’re delighted to present such an accomplished crew. These women are strong, committed and they raise each other’s, and everyone else in the wider squad’s, game. They’ve worked hard over the past season and the results are showing.
The past is a different country, but it’s been less than a year since we emerged from almost a year of lockdowns to find ourselves a little reduced. Members had scattered across the country and the biggest impact was seen on the women’s squad. Transitions in the club happen but this was, perhaps, a little beyond the norm. It’s been a big effort to rebuild but we’ve come a long way in a relatively short period of time, and that shows in the crew that we’re able to put forward for the biggest race of the season for our women.
This crew is exciting. Not just boasting impressive scores on the ergs, theres lots of WeHoRR experience, rowers who have qualified for, and raced at, Women’s Henley, and a thousand (probably) regattas and head races in between, even a Head of Charles or two. We’ve got Curlew legend Anita, some homegrown talent in the shape of Kat, Wizzy and Kam building on their 2021 Henley achievements, my rowing crush Katie (I want those erg scores, so buff!) and in a shift from previous years a transatlantic flavour with not one, not two, but three Americans in the shape of Kiernan, Molly and Allie! They are super impressive. As a cherry on the top we’ve got Curlew’s long time cox extraordinaire Alexander Smith at the helm.
Congratulations to the crew, we’ll be on the bank to cheer you on come Saturday. Have a great race!
But before we close, a word of thanks to everyone else that’s had a part in bringing this together. Captains and coaches obviously, but also everyone who has filled a seat in training or raced with these women in the events leading up to this moment, encouraged them at the gym, coxed them, trailered or the thousand other things it takes to make this happen. It takes, well it takes a whole club to do this!
