Fresh from a great result from Upper Thames, Curlew embarked on their second head race of the season Docklands Head. This is our local head race which gives us the home court advantage. Both squads intended to reaffirm their status as the top crew based at the Docks. With Globe Juniors fielding a very quick J18 quad which featured a recent GB medallist, the race was on!
Curlew fielded a whole range of boats from IM1VIIIs, IVs, 2-, Singles through to the novice VIII. This has been our biggest entry in recent year. This shows the strength and depth of the club at the moment. The results were as follows:
- Head of the River
- Fastest Women’s Boat
- Novice Single
- Fastest Coxless IV
Curlew has not won the Head of the River at docks for over 15 years. The results show the current rise of the Men’s squad. Coupled with the women being the fastest women’s crew just shows the hard work and battle paddling under Fred is already reaping benefits. Special mention to the men’s novice VIII and the great work under Maxine and Nick which saw them slip into the top 50 – a great result especially as for some of the rowers it was their first head race ever!
