A very small continent from Curlew Rowing Club legged it up the M11 to Peterborough on Saturday 11th to race at the Peterborough Summer Regatta. It is the first for quite sometime that Curlew had taken the trip up the M11 for the Summer Regatta, but it proved to be a good days racing for the club. With all boats that entered reaching their respected finals;
Masters B – W1x – Anita Jeff finished a respectable 3rd only recently coming back from a injury
Masters B – M1x – Mike Scott finished 3rd in an incredibly close race for the 2nd spot, with all three boats (behind the winner) finishing 2 seconds apart.
Master A/B – M4+ – Our master’s coxed IV won their category, taking home a very nice new trophy for Curlew Rowing Club. Beating a very well drilled Bristol Ariel crew and XPress Rowing Club from Cambridge.
Band 2 – M1x – Felix did brilliantly well winning his heat, coming second by a bow ball in his semi-final and finally finishing 3rd in a really competitive category. A great result for Felix, deserved a pot for the amount of rowing he did on the saturday.
W2- Waggy and Jess nailed the women’s pair category, storming through their semi-final and winning their final by a length to a very competitive crew from Gloucester Rowing Club. Testament to the work Fred has been doing in small boats over the course of the season with the women.
Band 1 M4- The big boys rocked up to Peterborough, Molesey and Thames – This was a Molesey crew who formed part of the VIII which equalled the course record in the VIII a few hours previously. Curlew put a gallant fight against Thames whilst Molesey moved away convincingly.
Band 2 M4x – The boys fared much better in their quad, posting the quickest time over the 1k in semi-finals, however they were unable to repeat that feat in their final coming in second in a very close race. Not bad for a club which is not renowned for it’s ability with 2 blades each.
It was a great regatta, and we will be back in force next year!
