And it’s finally here, our crew announcements for Head of the River Race 2022. Starting with the fine men of Curlew A.
To mix things things up we’re turning to our cox Issy for some words on the crew. ‘’As we head into the biggest race of the season I’m struck by what I have to say as being actually quite sappy. What I really like about this crew is that they take it very seriously on the water and on the ergs, but they’re all willing to have a laugh at the end of it, even if that involves buying the last croissant so someone else can’t have it. Seeing that drive to do well and the commitment to the programme is something I really admire, and it makes me want to put the work in my end to ensure we can do our best. In terms of the race I’m looking forward to, and I know the men are too, overtaking some boats .
I’m sure they’ll all hate me by the time we get to Putney, but there’s a lot of big calls on the legs along the way so we can do that. In the run up to the race, I’ve been amazed and amused by the intensity of their preparations. They’ve had some pretty serious conversations about which bottles to bring to pee into [Editor: Oh my, surely not!?] and they spent last Sunday discussing which baselayers they would all need to wear in a frankly excessive amount of detail, and one of the rowers is bringing a jar of honey to drink. He swears by it. Finally, as I look back to our first few sessions, it’s great to think how much progress we’ve made as a crew in terms of technique and speed, but also how we’ve come together and become a unit. I’ve really enjoyed coxing this crew and I’m looking forward to Saturday and watching all the hard work pay off’ Thanks Issy!
We’re excited for this crew and we’ll be cheering them on from the banks and bridges on Saturday morning!
