On Sunday 21st May 2017 saw all crews wanting to compete at this year’s Women’s Henley and Henley Royal Regatta from Globe and Curlew race against each other in some good old fashion racing.

Curlew 1st VIII VS Globe J18 4x

Curlew 1st IV- VS Globe J16 4x

Curlew W1st VIII – VS Globe W4x

All Curlew crews were rate capped at 30, and the distance was set at 3k, from the top of the regatta course through the “gut” into the second dock to the finish line set at the bridge. It was a great opportunity to put Globe young gun’s in their place and gain some much needed race practice. Maurice’s (Globe’s head coach) crews are well drilled and quick, with the Globe J18 quad only 4 seconds slower at Docklands Head in the winter season.

However, Curlew’s 1st VIII proved too strong for the J18 quad, however the J16 were too strong for our Wyfolds IV and the Globe Junior ladies were high competitive against our women’s 1st VIII.

Everyone equipped themselves amicably, and good banter was had by all crews. I hope we will have a chance to work with Globe Juniors again before Henley. If not, we wish Globe Junior all the very best at National Schools and at Henley and we will be there on the bank to cheer them on.
