And we’ve reached the most important seat in any coxless IV, especially at a Henley event, it’s the one responsible for evading the booms, the bow. Our bow seat is the mighty Kam Matulenaite, soon to be veteran of four Henley campaigns with Curlew. Kam joined Curlew in 2019 and immediately devastated the club with her mighty ergs, stellar technique and calm professionalism. She’s also really nice. Just the full package really.
What else can be said about her? Well over to her crew mate sitting at the other end of the boat, Kiernan:
‘Kam aka the steering goddess, aka vegan chef, aka The Mountaineer™️ is one of the finest rowers I’ve ever had the privilege of rowing with. She’s someone you want in the boat when your seat racing. There isn’t a piece she won’t give 100% to.
And with that her power is insane (fastest weight adjusted erg for men and women I won’t hear otherwise) and her technique has been admired from many a coach, even if they happened to be coaching a rival boat👀👀
I have had the privilege of rowing with Kam since I joined Curlew in 2021, and she is probably a major factor as to why I joined in the first place.
She’s down for whatever, “I’m easy” is the answer to most questions whether it be adding another water session onto the rota or going to the pub.
I never have any doubt Kam won’t be giving her absolute everything in a race, and her determination and dedication only pushes me to go faster.
Kam you’re a star and I’m so glad I get to row another Henley with you!’
While I’m slightly hurt that it wasn’t my excellent rowing which tempted Kiernan to make Curlew her permanent club (I’m fairly certain around the same time I demonstrated much bravery after capsizing my pair a mere 15m from the pontoon) I do recognise that everything that Kiernan says to be the gospel truth, who doesn’t want to row with Kam?
Like the rest of her crew Kam submitted pictures of her baby self, pictured recovering after some of her first 3 x 30 ergs and one from her early days of rowing. Completely adorable I am sure you agree
