Here comes our next HWR crew profile, the powerhouse rower and also awesome person Kat Blomberg. Like Kiernan and Wizzy, this will also be Kat’s third Henley campaign with Curlew.
Kat is a much beloved member of Curlew, and one of my favourite things: home, grown, talent. Kat learnt to row with Curlew and in a very short time made her way into the senior squad, earned her blazer and now rows in the top competitions. Which just goes to show, hard work (and a great club like Curlew) will see you achieve great things.
Her favourite pair partner Kam had this to say about her:
‘In our two seat and calling the shots is our lovable and feisty Scot/Norwegian Kat. We’re so international!
Kat is instrumental to our success in boat races both on the water and in the pub. Having rowed many a race with Kat, I know she’ll give 100% and then some, which she’s proven at Poplar by requiring a little medical attention post-race…
I’m not sure there’s anything she can’t do. She’s an artiste, pulls mega ergs, fixes all our boats in record time and is undertaking a PhD in her spare time. She has the biggest heart and a very comfortable shoulder to sleep on.
She drinks a very impressive (and maybe sometimes worrying) amount of coffee to somehow still remain cool, calm and collected in her calls. I trust she’ll get us sharpening our catches at all the right times to move through our competition.
Can’t wait to follow you for another Henley campaign 😘’
Well said Kam! When asked to submit a photo of her as child she sent an image that showed her early adoption of the ‘food is fuel’ mantra. For a picture from her early rowing forays she has submitted a picture at her of the stroke seat of one our dev boats at Peterborough Regatta, her first ever regatta, where she confirms after getting caught in the rain they came dead last. A distant memory now as Kat is armed with many wins and more BR points than you can shake a stick at.
