Met and Peterborough Results post!
Man, is it officially silly season. We’re racing racing racing pretty much every weekend until Henley is done. We. Love. It. This was what all those 3 x 30’ ergs were for.
Last weekend was a big one with us sending crews across squads to Met and Peterborough regattas. At Met our Henley hopefuls tested their mettle. We sent a men’s and women’s coxless IV and a men’s VIII.
This was the first race of the season in the final Wyfolds crew (there’s been a lot of seat racing, Coach Ewan ain’t afraid of a seat race) and they had a good Met, feeling pretty pleased with the results. They cut down significantly on the time between them and a rival crew between these races and Poplar, and we know there is more speed to come just from time in the boat in the run up to HRR. To this impartial observer of three plus years, I don’t think they’ve ever looked better.
The eight had a tougher weekend at Met which wasn't helped by mechanical failure from the sometimes treacherous shell, the Matthew Richardson (a broken seat) on Sunday’s time trial. Lessons learned, they will recoup and come back stronger.
For the women’s IV at Met it was another great build. A strong performance saw them in the C final on Saturday and then the B final on Sunday. This crew’s chemistry shines through every time they row together and we find them very exciting. For them the taper is on as Henley Women’s Regatta comes into view.
And then we had the dev squad VIII and the second women’s IV at Peterborough. For the VIII this was most folk’s second ever race, and we love that we’re getting them out there – huge thanks to Charlotte their captain for pulling double duty and travelling from Met to Peterborough for coxing duties. For the women’s second IV for the race plan went somewhat awry at the start of their heat (it’s happened to us all) but they showed great sportsmanship and didn’t give up. Which has my respect.
Keep training and racing crews! Only a few more back to back races to go.
