Next up for Poplar Regatta 23. The mens! Again we had loads of boats entered and some very pleasing performances in what ended up being some tough categories (so many West London clubs came to visit).

First up was the straight final of the Open IV- Gold featuring Curlew A and B. A spirited race against Vesta A and Moseley saw the boats claim 4th and 5th place. Of note in Curlew B was a new member, Pill Farlington I think, a real boat mover. Faster by 14 seconds I heard than our hometown rival’s, Globe RC, A boat. Just a factoid for our fans and any potential members thinking of which club will best help them reach their full potential.

Next up was some coxless pairs action courtesy of Chris and Ryan. A great line and row saw them come second, albeit out of two boats, but the commentator said it was ‘a masterclass in rowing’ and I completely agree.

Heading into the afternoon, our men’s VIII hit the waters for a very tough heat coming fourth against London, Shiplake and St Paul’s. A respectable time saw them happy with their effort and an improved performance on Wallingford. Can confirm from the finish line photos that they gave it their all. Chris especially looked dead.

The afternoon saw the open category of trophy coxless IVs featuring Curlew C (first photo) and Curlew D (the vets!) battling each other for fourth position, which Curlew C was pleased to claim. My apologies for not having a picture of Curlew D, we will make you front and centre of our reporting next time.

Want to see the boys? They are planning to be at Met and Marlow (isn’t everyone?) but some of them will likely be guest starring at Peterborough.

Great work Curlew! Especially Weter Disk.
