Wallingford Regatta 23 results post!

We entered seven crews with many of our top boats doubling up to enter two categories. Starting the day was the men’s coxless fours. Curlew A had a good race, missing the chance to contest for a place in the final in the repechage by the narrowest of margins, but showing a lot of heart in their heat with some great pushes. Curlew B had a trickier time but stayed in throughout the full 2k and will no doubt consolidate lessons going into the next races.

Next up it was Special K (Kat and Kam) in the coxless pairs who rowed a great race against a very strong field and secured a place in the final, ultimately coming in a respectable sixth out of twelve competitors in this category. With barely a moment to rest they joined their comrades Kiernan and Wizzy for the club coxless IVs. Incorrectly listed as Curlew B to confuse their competition, they rowed a frankly lush race coming in second in their heat and made the author of this post shout at the livestream in excitement. Through to the repechage, with the bow pair of this boat clocking their fourth 2k of the day they came fourth, missing out on the final. But a great start to their regatta season.

Our women’s B boat also contested a heat, and their first Wallingford, gaining valuable experience of side by side racing. They were later awarded best smiles by an independent and august judge (me).

Finally we had the Men’s VIII. Against a strong field they came fourth in their heat, showing that they can stay in during a scrum of boats. They didn’t realise their full potential on this occasion and they know they have more to give. Regatta competition cobwebs blown away they will no doubt be planning to come back bigger and better in just two weeks time at Poplar.

Well done to all our rowers. First regatta of the season ✅ benchmarks set ✅ and lots to build on as we look down the road to Henley!
