Wallingford Regatta is seen by many as the first real regatta of the summer season, however the 30th April seemed more like a Winter day than the start of Summer. Conditions were tricky early morning and then deteriorated to a point that all finals were suspended and the afternoon division was turned into a 1500m time trial.

Some very promising results, it was the first time for a long time that the women have raced coxless IVs, especially at challenge IV- level. The A crew narrowly missed out on the final by 4 seconds. Things are looking promising for Henley Women’s Regatta.

As for the men, there were mixed results. The Challenge VIII continues to impress beating all Thames Challenge Cup VIIIs bar Thames A. The Club VIII struggled in the tricky conditions, but as a learning curve the experience was invaluable. Both VIIIs are improving and the squad continues to perform, with Nottingham City Regatta is next on the list…watch this space.
